Apparently, Spiderman will make you gay. Err...OK. Nod: Davezilla

Tuesday 27th August

One of my favourite ever headlines and the reason I no longer play rugby league. I quote: "Wigan player has tooth extracted - from arm"

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain by the now-defunct Pavement is a strange record. For a collection of songs played by guys who can't play and sung by a guy who can't sing, it sounds surprisingly good. I guess it's testament to the adage that a good song will sound good no matter what you do to it.

Friday 23rd August 2002The delightful Ms Rusby

Have been listening to Little Lights by Kate Rusby, a folk singer from Bolton. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it - the songs weren't as 'folky' as I expected them to be and Rusby has an amazing voice. I'm off to grow a beard, buy some sandals and live in a tree.

I also just finished two new websites. One is a web version of a print-based newsletter that goes out to foodies in the Midlands, the second is a redesign of a site for a vineyard in Sussex. I'll add them to the portfolio when they go live.

Rather than listening to our advice/spiel and upgrade her browser to v.6.x (for free) she demanded that we make it work in her browser or she'd withhold the cheque.

Just got confirmation of our house in Ireland which I'll share with three other travelling rugby players. Cheap rent and lots of fun! Can't wait!

Saturday 17th August 2002 Robb....Henr...no, Robbie Paul

I just watched the BBC's coverage of the Middlesex Charity Sevens at Twickenham. The Bradford Bulls kicked ass making their Union opponents look quite amateurish. In the final Wasps may have won most of the set pieces but they couldn't do anything with the ball once they'd got hold of it. The Bulls on the other hand scored from every possession. People say the gap between Union and League is huge, but there are certainly things us Union players can learn from these guys.

A news article on zeldman.com turned me onto Davezilla, a site I'd heard about but never really visited. A quick look around revealed the Freak Watcher's Textbook which I think is a classic. Having recently visited the American Mid-West, I recognise quite a few of the species...
